Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is different from a standalone ketamine infusion. It pairs a low, supervised dose of ketamine with structured psychotherapy, so the session is guided, not just monitored. Ketamine briefly opens a window of neuroplasticity, a period where the brain is more able to form new connections and loosen fixed patterns of thought. KAP is built around that window: a trained therapist helps you prepare beforehand, stays present during the experience, and works with you afterward to make sense of it.
That last part, integration, is what separates assisted psychotherapy from a chemical treatment alone. Insights that surface during a session are fragile. Structured integration sessions turn them into durable change in how you think, feel, and respond. At Village TMS, KAP is delivered by board-certified psychiatrists alongside a psychotherapist, in a calm Manhattan clinic, as part of a personalised plan rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Ketamine's antidepressant effects, and the value of pairing dosing with psychotherapy and integration, are supported by peer-reviewed trials. Esketamine (Spravato) is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression.
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy can use any of three delivery formats. Whichever fits your situation, the therapy and integration work around it stays the same. Your psychiatrist and therapist match the format to you.
IV INFUSION
Our IV ketamine treatment delivers precise, low-dose infusions for rapid symptom relief. Each 40-minute session is closely monitored for safety, easing depressive symptoms and promoting emotional balance.
Nasal Spray
FDA-approved nasal spray ketamine therapy offering quick results for major depressive disorder and treatment-resistant depression. Supervised by medical experts for comfort and safety.
IM INJECTION
A balanced option for sustained relief without IV infusions. Controlled low-dose injections help stabilize mood between sessions and support lasting recovery.
Spravato® (esketamine) is a nasal spray derived from ketamine. It is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression in adults, used together with an oral antidepressant. It is also approved for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder who have acute suicidal thoughts or behaviour.
Because of its profile, Spravato must be administered in a healthcare setting certified under the FDA's REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) program. After each dose, patients are monitored on-site for at least two hours and cannot drive for the rest of that day, so you will need to arrange a ride home.
This in-clinic model is also why Spravato is more frequently covered by insurance than IV or IM ketamine, which are typically used off-label. Candidates are generally adults whose depression has not responded adequately to other antidepressants. A psychiatrist will onfirm whether it is appropriate for you.
A side-by-side look to help you and your psychiatrist choose the right path.
IV and IM ketamine are used off-label and are frequently self-pay. Spravato is FDA-approved and, because it is given in-clinic, is more often covered. We verify your specific coverage for free.
Ketamine opens a short window of neuroplasticity. Our program is built to use it, pairing each dosing session with therapy and structured integration so gains hold, rather than fading between infusions.
Supported by multiple clinical trials, ketamine has shown high response rates in individuals who haven’t responded to traditional treatments or medication management.

You're cared for in a
comfortable setting with vitals
tracked throughout each
session.
Structured integration sessions with your therapist turn insights from each dosing session into lasting change. This is the core of assisted psychotherapy.
You begin with a consultation. We take a careful medical and psychiatric history, discuss your goals, and design a personalised protocol. We also verify your insurance coverage and answerany questions so you feel informed before anything begins.
You're seated comfortably in a quiet, monitored room. A typical session lasts around 40 minutes,
with vitals tracked throughout. Many patients notice a mild, transient sense of dissociation, a
floating or dreamlike feeling, that fades as the session ends. Our team is present the entire time.
Because of the temporary effects, you should not drive on a treatment day, so arrange a ride home in advance. Soon after, you meet with your therapist for an integration session, the part of KAP where the experience is turned into practical, lasting change. Integration is built into the program, not an add-on.
Treatment usually starts with an initial series of sessions, followed by maintenance visits as
clinically indicated. Your psychiatrist tracks your response and adjusts the plan over time, rather
than following a fixed one-size-fits-all schedule.
In recent years, Ketamine-Assisted Therapy has redefined how clinicians
approach mental health treatment. Originally used as a dissociative anesthetic,
the use of ketamine in psychiatry has proven to promote rapid neuroplasticity
and help restore balance to brain circuits disrupted by mental illness.
Our low-dose ketamine treatment minimizes side effects while maintaining
strong results. Mild dizziness or a brief dissociative experience may occur
but fades quickly. Clinicians monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and
comfort during all dosing sessions to ensure safe, precise ketamine
administration in a calm, professional setting.
All sessions are monitored by board-certified psychiatrists. Screening determines whether ketamine is appropriate for you.

I founded Village TMS because so many of my patients had been failed by
standard treatment paths. My approach is unhurried, evidence-driven, and centred on what each person actually needs to feel like themselves again.
I came to TMS after watching patients
cycle through medications that didn't fit them. My focus is precision, matching the right protocol to the right person, and adjusting as we go.
I help adults and couples build self-awareness and deepen relationships. My work is grounded in Gestalt therapy and informed by EMDR, mindfulness, and transpersonal psychology. I combine deep emotional exploration with practical tools, working in a warm, collaborative space where clients feel genuinely seen and supported.
